October A Month of Conferences

October started off great with MLC ( Missionary Leadership Council) training followed by General Conference.  All the missionaries were excited to hear and follow our Prophet.  The sister missionaries are following the counsel of President Nelson when he asked all the sisters to read the Book Of Mormon and highlight references to Christ.  Following General Conference we enjoyed 2 days of Zone Conference and one day of 8 Week Training (we bring in all missionaries and their trainers who have been out 8 weeks and go over lesson plans and role play lessons)  This gives them an opportunity to practice and receive feedback from other missionaries and to see one another!  President and Sister Peterson also role play for everyone,  President Peterson is the missionary and Sister Peterson is the person being taught.

The following Friday October 12 our mission joined the Texas Houston East and South Mission for a Tri-mission conference with Elder Holland., and other general authorities who are over our area.  We met in the afternoon for 3 hours.  We were all uplifted with a renewed commitment to serve the Lord.  We had our 3rd zone the next week and President and Sister Peterson went to Dallas for a 3 day mission president seminar with Elder Holland.  We enjoyed going to the Dallas Temple and learning at the seminar along with 20 mission presidents and wives.

The rest of the month we had interviews, finding, teaching, baptizing, Faith Meets Families, Why I Believe Fireside, a visit with President Petersons brother Whitney (who one missionary described as being just like President Peterson except without filters!) and at the end of October all the missionaries were blessed to go to the temple with a family name they personally found while doing family history (once a week for 1 hour)

Many of our dear brothers and sisters were baptized and we look forward to seeing them grow on the covenant path.

October was a busy fulfilling month and we look forward to November!

Pictures to follow!

Faith Meets Families at the Houston Temple

Each month converts come to the temple and bring a family name (they learn to find family names with help from the missionaries and family history consultant)  to do baptisms, ward members bring them and missionaries also attend with the converts who are in their current ward.   One sister told us she felt the spirit more strongly when she did baptisms for the dead for her ancestor  then when she herself was baptized.  It is a wonderful experience to see husbands baptizing their wife and children who are doing these proxy baptisms.  We also receive a lot of help from our wonderful senior missionaries.

Arrrivng Missionaries to the Texas Houston Mission

Wednesday we welcomed 11 elders to the Mission.  Four are Spanish speaking and the rest English  We are excited to have them here, they arrived at the airport then came to the mission home for dinner and a testimony meeting.  They were all tired and went to bed and all returned to the mission home Thursday for breakfast and training before going to see the Houston Temple.  After taking pictures at the temple we all went to the church for training and to meet their new companions, have lunch, more training then off to their new areas.
