Meet Elder Brown our New Assistant

Elder Tebbs completed his mission, he was one of the elders who were asked to complete their mission at 21 months (by September 1 ).  We were sad to say goodbye to Elder Tebbs.  Elder Brown was called as an assistant and because of all the missionaries we thought were going to be arriving the following week, President Peterson called him and asked him to begin a week earlier then we normally do.  Elder Brown is a quick learner and never seemed overwhelmed.  We sure love him and all the assistants we have had.

What do we do inside all day? We get outside and Heartattack!

Service is an important part of missionary work and the missionaries were given some ideas on what they could do. One idea was a "heart attack".  Relief society sisters were asked to provide supplies to the missionaries in their ward, such as construction paper, stickers and markers.  Missionaries were then asked to cut out hearts, write inspirational messages on them, decorate with stickers and put them on the doors of church members or people they were teaching.  President Peterson and I were in the Melbourne area one day, he interviewed a wonderful woman for baptism.  After the interview we found out she didn't have a ride home and we offered her a ride.  We discovered she lived at the same apartment as a family who were recently baptized.  How pleasantly surprised when we discovered that and also to see the sister missionaries had "heart attacked" the new members door.

Transfer day and Social Distancing!

We tried to social distance and wear masks as we held transfers Tuesday May 5.  Honestly we were so happy to see each other after being in our apartments since the middle March.  Our meetings such as interviews and zone conferences have all been on zoom video.

We welcome all yall with open arms to the Texas Houston Mission

We were blessed to receive 39 missionaries who had been sent home from their missions to Korea, the Philippines and South America due to COCID-19.  They had the choice to come back out to another mission with the possibility of returning to their original mission once it opened again or waiting 12-18 months and return to their mission (again if it was opened).  95% of missionaries chose to return to another mission.  We are so grateful for their choice and dedication to the Lord.  We also had been hoping to have more Spanish speaking missionaries and the Lord truly blessed us with many this transfer!  None of the missionaries used technology before and are learning how to use it in the mission.  We know they miss their previous missions and all the people they had been teaching.  We welcome them to the Texas Houston Mission with open arms and  look forward to serving with  them in this sacred work.

Returning Missionarries

8 missionaries returned home May 6, 2020, 7 elders who were at 21 months and 1 sister.  The transfer was different, we did not originally have any new missionaries scheduled to come in, we however received notice by email the Saturday before that 39 deployed ( from foreign missions) would be arriving Tuesday May 5.  Since they were coming from home and not the Provo or Mexico  MTC, all would be arriving at various times through out the day.  We were able to set up a BBQ dinner for them beginning at 2 pm until the last ones arrived at 8 pm.  Their companions came throughout the day to pick them up. The 8 missionaries who were returning home were a great help with the meals and being at the Hafer church building all day.  Sister Ethington stay over night at the mission home and everyone gathered together Wednesday morning (wearing masks) to enjoy breakfast and off to the airport.
We were sad to see the space cow was missing at the airport, we like to take pictures with the departing missionaries and the cow.  We heard the cow was craned away for renovations and  hopefully will return!

Masks and Service

The church leaders had asked that all our missionaries wear masks when in public.  Many Relief Society sisters and missionaries made masks for us.  Within a week all our missionaries had homemade cloth masks to wear.  We are so grateful for all those who are always so willing to help us and others.  When ye are in the Service of your fellow being you are only in the Service of your God.
