Revealed Priorities

Dear Sisters and Elders –

The principles and practices associated with full-time missionary service are contained in the scriptures and Preach My Gospel.  This general framework for doing missionary work has been revealed to us through modern day Prophets and applies to all missionaries throughout the Church.

In addition, the Lord can reveal tailored instructions for missionaries serving in a specific mission through the mission president.  As discussed during the recent zone conferences, the Lord has revealed several priorities for the Texas Houston Mission.  I felt to review these again today.
  • Love must be our greatest motivation—love for God, love for investigators, love for companions, and love for members.
  • Strive earnestly to find new people to teach each day.  "I have prepared tens of thousands in the mission who will receive the gospel; all you need to do is find them."
  • Work closely with local leaders and members in the Rescue Effort.  As we bring back less-active members and work with part-member families, we will find new people to teach.
  • Focus on the Atonement of Jesus Christ and develop gratitude for Him and His great sacrifice.  As we do, our desires to find, teach, and baptize will increase.
  • Use the Book of Mormon more effectively in proselyting.  Seek the Lord’s guidance to know how to use the Book of Mormon in each individual area.
  • Improve spiritual preparation by living the morning schedule with diligence.
  • Raise expectations to baptize monthly.  This is the Lord’s work, not ours.  He wants to bless us more than He has.  If we are obedient, virtuous, and work hard, the Lord will perform mighty miracles.
I testify that these priorities come from the Lord and if we exercise faith to live them fully, the Lord will be able to bless us and to hasten the work through us.  “I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise” (D&C 82:10).

The Lord has great miracles intended for us and those He has prepared to receive the gospel in this mission.

With love,

President Pingree
