Quarterly interviews/training began last week with missionaries serving in areas near College Station and Katy. Please find below a few pictures from interviews, along with President Pingree's weekly message to the missionaries inviting them to participate in a challenge that will hopefully help us all increase our understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Dear Sisters and Elders –
This past weekend, Sister Pingree and I were blessed to attend a mission president seminar with Elder David A. Bednar. During one of the discussions, Elder Bednar recommended a powerful method for gaining a better understanding of the Atonement.
- Find a paperback copy of the Book of Mormon.
- Read the book cover-to-cover and highlight any passage that helps you answer the following question: “How can I use the enabling and strengthening power of the Atonement?”
- Write a one-page summary of what you learned.
We were promised that if we would do this, we would come to know the Savior better, learn to access added strength from the Atonement, and become more effective servants of Jesus Christ.
Sisters and Elders, I feel strongly impressed to extend this invitation to each of you. Starting today, please obtain a copy of the Book of Mormon and begin the process described above. Let’s complete this challenge before June 30, 2014. This represents a significant effort and will require you to do extra reading on preparation day, during lunch, and before bed. However, your extra sacrifice will be worth it!
What could be more important than understanding and applying the Atonement in our own lives and helping others do the same?
With much love and respect,
President Pingree
