Preparing our investigators to receive revelation...

To the missionaries of the Great Texas Houston Mission,

We had some wonderful zone meetings this last week. We hope you took away some additional skills from the role play to help those we teach be better prepared to receive revelation and recognize it when it comes. Important questions to ask include:

1. Do you think our Heavenly Father will answer your prayer?
2. How do you think He will do it?

Usually people don't know how to answer this second question. Then we can teach them that it will be through the power of the Holy Ghost and help them understand what that might be like. The Restoration pamphlet is a great resource for this.

We have already heard from many of you about how taking that additional time to help those we teach be better prepared to receive revelation has transformed the power of the Spirit in your lessons. It's exciting and exactly what the Lord would have us do!

In PMG (p 99), President Howard W. Hunter gives us a clear indication of whether or not the Spirit is present or whether we can feel it when he says, "The Spirit of the Lord always edifies." We can know if our investigators have experienced the Spirit in their reading and as they've prayed because we will see it in their eyes. Their countenances will have changed. If we're not seeing it, we need to better help them prepare to have that experience in the way we teach.

As they are prepared to receive and recognize revelation, we will see real conversion that will inspire people to both turn away from sin and more importantly to turn toward God by willingly making and keeping commitments that will lead them to greater happiness.

We love you all and are so inspired by your Christ-like service! May the Lord bless you for all the good you are doing!

Love,

President and Sister Mortensen
